Had a client's server room flood from a burst pipe above the ceiling last winter.
We were in a downtown office building and water started dripping onto the main rack, so I grabbed a shop vac from the maintenance closet and got everything powered down within 15 minutes. The real issue was the backup tapes on a low shelf that got soaked, which taught me to always check storage locations during disaster planning. What's your go-to first step when you walk into a surprise water situation like that?

Wait, the backup tapes were on a low shelf? That's just asking for trouble. I'd have never thought to check there either, honestly.

You mentioned the backup tapes on a low shelf. That's such a specific and brutal lesson. When you do your disaster planning walk-through now, what's the actual checklist you use for storage locations? Like, do you just look for anything below waist level, or are there other sneaky spots you've learned to check?
