Got called out by a customer in Boise last Tuesday for still carrying a SATA dock
She watched me pull a drive with a USB 3.0 toaster and asked why I wasn't just using an NVMe enclosure like her kid does. Three years back that dock was the only way I could clone a spinner without yanking the tower apart, and honestly it still gets the job done on older machines. Anybody else still keeping the old tools around just in case, or am I the only one holding on to dead weight?
Funny thing is her kid's NVMe enclosure probably cost more than your whole dock and does exactly one thing. Those old USB toasters are like a pickup truck, ugly and slow but they haul whatever junk you throw at them and never complain. Meanwhile the fancy new stuff needs drivers, firmware updates, and a prayer every time you plug it in. Tell the customer you'll switch when her kid's setup can clone a 2008 laptop drive without a single error message.
