Found out my can of compressed air cost more per ounce than gasoline

I was cleaning out a dusty old Dell tower last Tuesday and ran out of canned air. Grabbed a new can from the shop, and for fun I did the math on the price per ounce. That can of air was like 5 dollars for 10 ounces, which works out to over 60 bucks a gallon. Gasoline was hovering around 3.50 a gallon that week. Has anyone else done the math on what we spend on basic cleaning supplies?

Whoa, hold up, that math is a little off. Tbh, those little cans of compressed air are usually around 10 ounces, but a gallon is 128 ounces, so you're looking at more like 12.8 cans to make a gallon. At $5 a can, that's actually around $64 a gallon, not $60. Still crazy expensive compared to gas, but the numbers matter. Ngl, I did the same thing with a can of WD-40 once and it came out to like $100 a gallon for that stuff. It's wild how we just toss these cans without thinking about the markup.

And @lilycraig is right, that markup on compressed air is downright criminal.
