Fixed a school district's POS system after 3 failed visits
Got called back to a middle school in Fresno because their cafeteria card readers kept dropping offline. Turned out the issue was the power injector on the network switch, it was rated for 15 watts but the readers needed 30. Swapped it out for a PoE+ model from my van and it's been stable for a week. Anyone else run into underpowered injectors causing random resets like that?
Man, yes! Had almost the exact same thing at an elementary school here in Modesto last spring. Their WiFi access points kept rebooting every few hours and I chased it for two trips before I checked the injector specs. Cheap 12 watt units feeding APs that pull close to 20 under load. Swapped in some proper 802.3at injectors and the dropouts stopped cold. The part that got me was the injectors tested fine with a multimeter, they just could not keep up once real traffic hit them.
