Dropped $80 on a magnetic parts tray and it's already saved my butt twice
Been doing house calls for about 6 years now, and I finally got sick of losing screws behind drywall and under desks. Picked up one of those big magnetic trays with the rubber bottom last month for $80. First job I used it on was this old Dell tower where the owner had like 30 different sized screws loose. Second job was a server rack install where I dropped a tiny M2 standoff and it stuck right to the tray instead of bouncing into the abyss. Anyone else swear by a specific tool that seemed like a gimmick until you actually used it?

Heard my neighbor dropped a laptop screw in the grass and that tray caught it before it vanished forever.

Good question - does it hold its position well when you're working on something that's not perfectly level? I've been burned by cheaper trays sliding off the edge of a desk mid-job, and I'm curious if the rubber bottom on that one actually keeps it planted. Also, how strong is the magnet for holding those tiny server screws in place compared to the bigger ones?

Bought one last month. Put it on my slanted workshop bench just to test it. Didn't budge an inch. That rubber bottom grips like cheap velcro on carpet. @cameron426 the magnet part is actually solid even for tiny screws. Better than my other tray where everything slid around. Guess paying a bit more actually pays off for once.
