Dell vs HP business laptops - which has gotten worse faster?

I used to swear by Dell Latitudes for their build quality, but the last three I've opened had cracked hinges within 6 months. Meanwhile HP ProBooks seem to have worse thermal paste application every year - pulled one apart last week that looked like someone spread it with a butter knife. Is this just me or has reliability dropped across the board since 2020?

Three Latitudes with hinge failures means you're unlucky, or Dell's 2020 redesign was a disaster.

Wait, did Dell just start using the Hinge Design team from Fisher-Price or something? I swear my 2010 Latitude could survive a drop from a building, but these new ones feel like they're held together with spite and bad intentions. And yeah, the thermal paste situation is a MESS, I opened an HP last month and found a glob that looked like a toddler decorated a cupcake. Honestly though, maybe I'm just cursed because the last three laptops I bought all had some factory defect that made me wonder if they're built by people who HATE their jobs.
