That $200 online course on SQL I bought last spring never got me a single interview, but a free YouTube tutorial from some random guy got me a job offer in 3 months.

I spent the money thinking a certificate would look good on my resume, but the real learning came from just building my own projects and talking through them in interviews - has anyone else found that formal courses are way overhyped compared to free stuff?

Yeah, I dropped $300 on a 'masterclass' once and the instructor kept saying 'leverage synergies.' Still can't figure out if that helped me land my current gig or just confused me into appearing smarter than I am.
