I always thought standing desks were a gimmick. My office manager offered me one for free last month so I figured I'd try it. Been using it for 3 weeks now and my lower back tightness is basically gone. I split my day about 60/40 standing vs sitting. Has anyone else noticed a real difference with one of these or is it just placebo?

Back in 2009, Mrs. Patterson pulled me aside and said 'you're not built for sitting in a lecture hall, go learn something with your hands.' I was embarrassed at first because everyone else was applying to universities. I went to a 10 month HVAC program at our local tech center instead of a 4 year degree. Walked into my old trade school last week and barely recognized the welding shop

Had to pick up some paperwork from the admin office. The welding shop looked totally different. All these new digital welding simulators. They had 12 of them lined up. Kids practice on screens before touching real metal. We just had scrap steel and a prayer back in 2005. I mean it's impressive but watching them learn on a screen felt weird. Did anyone else's training skip this whole VR phase?

My professor told me I was writing like a robot and it stung but she was right

I was in a business communications class last semester and our first big assignment was a cover letter. I spent hours making it sound super professional and formal, like how I thought employers wanted. Professor handed it back with a C- and wrote "this reads like a LinkedIn bot wrote it" in red. She sat me down after class and said real hiring managers can tell when you copy generic phrases from templates. She made me rewrite it using actual sentences I would say out loud to someone. I changed the whole thing to be more direct and personal, talked about specific projects I worked on instead of buzzwords. Ended up getting an interview with that version and the guy said my letter made him smile. Has anyone else had a teacher just completely tear apart something you thought was good and then it actually helped?

I found out I could've skipped half my degree and still gotten the same job

Was talking to a hiring manager at a tech meetup in Austin last month and she straight up told me they don't care about half the classes on my transcript. She said for their junior dev roles, they only look at two things: can you pass their coding test and do you have any projects on GitHub. I went home and checked the job postings from the last 6 months at like 15 companies in my area. Almost none of them listed specific degree requirements past "bachelor's preferred" or just said "or equivalent experience." Meanwhile I spent $12,000 on gen ed classes that have nothing to do with my major. Feels like I got scammed by the whole system honestly. Has anyone else found out their degree was way less important than they thought?
