Rant: Everyone said a marketing degree was useless but I hit 6 figures in 3 years

I graduated from a small state school in Ohio with a marketing degree back in 2021 and everyone from my parents to career counselors told me I'd never make decent money. Three years later I'm pulling $105k as a digital marketing manager for a mid-sized ecommerce company. Has anyone else found a specific field that paid off way better than the 'experts' predicted?

...and honestly that just proves how out of touch the whole "follow your passion" or "get a real degree" crowd really is. I've noticed this pattern where people who give career advice are usually stuck in the old way of thinking, like whatever worked for them 20 years ago is the only path. Marketing is one of those things that changed so fast with the internet that the old rules don't apply anymore. It's like how everyone told me I was nuts for starting my own grooming shop instead of working for someone else, but now I'm making more than my friends with "safe" jobs at corporations. People just don't realize that the market shifts every few years and what's "useless" today might be gold tomorrow if you actually work at it.

That whole "out of touch" thing you said @james_ramirez really hit home... my cousin took a vocational welding course instead of college and now he's turning down work because he's too busy. Funny how the world works like that sometimes.
