Just found out trade school is way cheaper than I thought

Saw a stat that the average welding program costs under $5,000 total. I always figured it was 20k like those for-profit places advertise. Anyone else dig into actual costs for a trade cert?

Did you look into community college programs too?

Honestly, my buddy Mike dropped 4 grand on a welding cert at a local tech center, and he was making 50k his first year out. The whole "college is the only way" thing has people afraid of trade schools, but the numbers don't lie. I see it all the time in my line of work - younger guys coming in with 20k in student loans for a degree they're not using, while trade school grads are debt free and already working. It's like people forgot that plumbers and electricians have been around way longer than most desk jobs. The big lie is that for-profit schools and universities want you to think you gotta spend a fortune, when the real options are sitting right there for a fraction of the price.
