A professor told me my degree choice was a mistake, and I still think about it
I was at a university career fair in Austin about 6 years ago, talking to a history professor about their program. I mentioned I was leaning toward a degree in communications. He looked me right in the eye and said 'that degree won't get you a job, pick something with numbers in it.' That one comment stuck with me through two years of college and into my first job hunt. I ended up with a communications degree anyway, and it took me 8 months after graduation to land a steady role. I wonder if he was right or if that kind of advice just pushes people away from what they are good at. Has anyone else had a teacher or advisor say something like that to you?

Man that's rough, I'm sorry you had to deal with that kind of energy from someone who was supposed to be helping you. People love to act like they know what's best for everyone else's life path. Took me a minute to figure out that a lot of those "helpful" comments are just their own fears talking. Good on you for sticking with what you wanted and making it work.
