Vent: Everyone told me to never use a microwave for proofing, but my apartment is freezing.

I tried it on the lowest power for 10 seconds with a cup of water and got a perfect rise in half the time. Does anyone have other warm spot tricks for cold kitchens?

Oh, careful... that can still cook the edges.

Check the material you're working with too. I've seen people use cheap plastic wrap that melts from just the steam off a hot bowl. The thicker stuff from the restaurant supply store holds up way better. Even then, don't let it touch the food directly if you can help it.

Betty's right about the thick stuff, but even that can leach into fatty foods.
