This lady at the farmers market told me my sourdough was 'too crusty' and asked if I had any soft bread.
She said it right in front of my stall in Springfield last Saturday, and I had to just smile while thinking, 'Ma'am, that's the whole point of a proper sourdough boule.'

I mean, I just keep a small loaf of sandwich bread on the side now. When someone says that, I point to it and say it's my 'soft option' and explain the sourdough crust is part of the bake. It usually gets a laugh and they either take the hint or buy the other loaf.

Saw a blog post that said exactly what @ramirez.blair does.

Honestly I feel this so much. It's exhausting when people act like a crusty loaf is some kind of personal attack. I love that you handle it with humor instead of getting defensive though, that's way smarter than me snapping back. Most folks just don't get that good bread has texture and that's the whole point. Good on you for finding a way to meet them halfway without dumbing down your bake. That's not easy to pull off.
