DAE have a stand mixer that just decided to quit mid-batch?
My KitchenAid died yesterday while I was creaming butter and sugar for a double batch of chocolate chip cookies at 3pm. The motor started smoking and now it won't turn on at all, even after letting it cool down for an hour. Anyone know if it's worth fixing or should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one?

Bruh my wife's KitchenAid has survived three moves and two dogs and still runs like a champ.

Save yourself the headache and check the thermal fuse before you do anything else. Happened to my sister's mixer, cost like $15 and took 20 minutes to swap out if you're handy with a screwdriver. If it's just the motor brushes wearing down, those are even cheaper to replace and you avoid that burnt smell. Otherwise, yeah $175 is steep, better to just grab a new one on sale and keep the old one for parts.

My friend Jen's KitchenAid died the exact same way in the middle of making her grandma's sugar cookie recipe last Christmas. The motor just seized up and started smelling like burnt plastic. She took it to a small appliance repair shop near her in Portland and they quoted her $175 to fix it, which was almost half the price of a brand new one. She ended up buying a new one on sale for $230 and said it was totally worth it for the peace of mind.

Wait, didn't she check if it was still under warranty first? Honestly, a lot of people don't realize KitchenAid has that one year warranty and sometimes even longer if they registered it. Tbh, if it was less than a year old most of that repair cost would have been on them. Ngl though, I get her just buying a new one on sale because even $230 is cheaper than a full repair and you get a fresh motor. The old one can sit in the garage as backup or she can sell it for parts on Craigslist. Just a bummer timing with the holiday baking and all.
