Went with the $200 multimeter over the $80 one last month

Had to decide between a Fluke 87 and a Klein. Picked the Fluke. Found out yesterday it saved me. Had a weird voltage reading on a 737 radio panel. The Fluke caught a 0.2 volt drop the Klein would have missed. Anyone else had a cheap tool nearly cost you a troubleshoot?

Yeah, "paid for itself a hundred times over" is so true, I see that pattern everywhere now, like buying decent boots vs cheap ones that fall apart in a month.

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy Carlos had basically the same thing happen with a borrowed clamp meter on a 767. He was checking a generator load and the cheap one showed everything was fine, perfect readings. Next day he double checks with his personal Fluke and finds a 1.5 amp imbalance that would've killed the generator in a couple hours. The cheap meter just averaged the current instead of catching that real drop. He still talks about how that one tool paid for itself a hundred times over just by not letting him walk away thinking everything was good. It's wild how much a few extra bucks can save your whole day and your reputation too.
