Thought the new fiber optic crimper was just hype until I had to fix a broken line on a Citation

I was working on a Citation X last week and the old crimper just would not get a good seal on the new connector. A guy at the hangar next to mine, who works for a cargo outfit, let me borrow his new 'EZ-Crimp' tool. I was sure it was just a gimmick, but it made a perfect connection on the first try. The insertion loss test came back under 0.5 dB, which saved me hours of rework. Anyone else have a tool they thought was junk that actually saved a job?

Totally get that, @benreed! I felt the same way about those new ratcheting wire strippers until I tried them on some tiny gauge stuff. Made a messy job clean in seconds.

Sounds like a lot of fuss over a crimper... it's just squeezing a piece of plastic, right?

Just squeezing plastic" - yeah til you do it wrong and the connector pulls off in your hand. Then it's fussy real quick lol.
