Overheard a Line Guy in Tulsa talk about corrosion

Was swapping an antenna on a Cessna 172 yesterday. Line guy walks by and tells me he never uses steel wool near aluminum. Said it embeds particles and starts the white powder mess in weeks. I always used scotch-brite pads. Guess I was the dummy. Has anyone else got a corrosion trick they swear by?

Scotch-brite pads can still leave stuff behind if they have any metal in them, so stick with the non-metallic ones. The real trick is wiping the bare aluminum down with Alodine or a good zinc chromate primer before you bolt anything on.
