O-scope vs multimeter for intermittent faults, the scope won by a mile
Been chasing a weird drop out on a G1000 PFD for like 3 days over in the hangar at KPDX. Multimeter said steady 28V on the bus but the screen kept flickering. Finally broke out the O-scope and caught a 40ms voltage sag right on the pin connector, turned out to be a cold solder joint on the backshell. Lesson learned, that $400 multimeter is good for static checks but worthless for catching fast stuff. Now my rule is any intermittent, the scope comes out first. How do you guys decide when to bust out the big gear versus the handheld?
