Lost a transponder squawk on a Gulfstream panel at 2am in Wichita, and a $6 connector saved me
Was doing a late shift in Wichita last Tuesday and chased a intermittent Mode S squawk for 4 hours swapping trays. Everything tested fine on the bench, scope looked clean, and I was about to write it up as a no fault. Turned out the coax connector at the rack had a hairline crack you could only see under a magnifier, and it only acted up when the airframe flexed. Swapped in a $6 BNC and the fault went away. Now I keep a magnifier in my bag, but what do you guys use to catch those tiny hairline cracks before you pull a whole rack?
