I finally stopped trusting my eyes on a cracked circuit board after a $300 mistake on a King Air last Tuesday

Turns out the hairline fracture was hiding right under a conformal coating that looked perfect, and I only found it after dragging my meter probes across the board for 20 minutes has anyone else had a visual inspection totally fail on them?

Not sure a cracked board justifies that much drama over a simple continuity check.

Only a $300 mistake? Rookie numbers, try chasing a ghost in a King Air for three hours with the owner breathing down your neck. I once stared at a perfectly clean board for so long I started seeing patterns that weren't there. Turned out the crack was hiding under a glob of old flux that looked just like the solder mask. Conformal coating is basically a magic trick sometimes. Your meter probes are the only real friend you've got in that situation.
