Had a convo with a 30 year avionics vet at the hangar in Nashville last Friday

He told me to stop chasing bad grounds on the bench and start checking the aircraft bonding straps first, and after 6 months of wasting hours on dead ends, it hit me how much I overcomplicate simple stuff - anyone else get humbled by an old timer like that?

actually that reminds me of something that happened to me a few years back. i was working on a old Cessna 172, chasing some weird static in the comms for like two weeks. swapping out antennas, checking coax runs, the whole deal. finally the guy who used to work on these things back in the 80s comes over, taps the bonding strap between the engine and firewall, and just walks away. i was so mad at myself for missing something that basic. makes you realize there's a reason those guys are still around.

Man that's exactly the kind of wake-up call that sticks with you. Nothing like a seasoned pro walking in and fixing your two-week headache in ten seconds flat.
