Cannon plug corrosion had me grounded for 2 days in Phoenix

Last week I pulled a KX-155 out of a Cessna 172 and the backshell was full of that green crusty stuff. Moisture got in through a cracked grommet and ate half the pins on the coax connector. I spent 6 hours chasing intermittent audio issues before I even looked at the plug itself. Anyone else run into this on older King radios, and is there a better sealant than the standard dielectric grease?
