Warning: that $4,200 third party warranty saved me, and I still think most of you are wrong about them
Six months ago I posted here saying I was about to buy a third party warranty on my 2016 Silverado with 118k miles, and the replies tore me apart. One guy wrote, and I still remember it, "that's a $4,200 lottery ticket with a 30 percent payout" and like 40 people agreed with him. Here's the thing though, I bought it anyway, and in April my transmission let go at 131k. Shop in Fort Worth quoted me $6,800 for a rebuild, the warranty covered $5,100 after my $200 deductible, and I had a check in 11 days. I get why people hate on these plans, the fine print is real and half the companies are scams, but the blanket advice on this sub that every service contract is a ripoff is just wrong. My parents got burned by one in the 90s so I know that side too, but my whole point is that it depends on the plan, the car, and how honest the seller is. Does anyone here actually have a claim story that went well, or am I the only one on this whole forum who came out ahead?
