Serious question, did I mess up picking the $1,800 warranty over the $2,600 one back in 2019?
Back in 2019 I bought a used Silverado in Phoenix and the dealer offered me two warranty plans, a basic powertrain one for $1,800 or a bumper to bumper for $2,600. I went with the cheaper one because my dad always said extended warranties were a waste of money. Fast forward to last March, my transmission went out at 96,000 miles and the basic plan only covered part of it, so I was out $1,400 on top of the $1,800 I already paid. Looking back I wish I had just put that money in a savings account, but now I'm wondering if the bumper to bumper would have actually been worth it. Has anyone here done the math on when a warranty actually pays for itself?
