My buddy's used car lot comment about third party warranties stuck with me

I was helping my friend Mike clean out his lot in Cleveland last Saturday and he pointed at a 2018 sedan with 60k miles. He said he never pushes the aftermarket warranty on those because the fine print excludes the exact things that break. That got me thinking about the bumper to bumper plan I got online for my own truck. I paid $2,400 for 5 years of coverage and now I wonder if I wasted that cash. Has anyone had a third party warranty actually pay for a major repair without a fight?
