I finally compared two paint protection plans, the cheaper one won

Back in March I was picking between the dealer's paint package at $1,200 and an independent shop's plan for $650 for my 2021 Tacoma in Austin. Both covered chips and scratches for 5 years, but the dealer pushed theirs hard saying they use 'factory approved' stuff. After 4 months with the same gravel road commute, both have two rock chips fixed already and the cheaper shop's work actually matches better. The only difference I noticed was the dealer made me use their body shop, while the independent one let me pick any place in their network. Has anyone else seen the big box warranty providers beat out the dealership pitch on price alone?

Dealer coverage matters more when claims get sticky later.
