Extended warranty on my 2018 F-150 just denied a $2,800 repair over a loose hose clamp
So I got the call from the shop yesterday. Water pump failure, they said, and my extended policy won't cover it because the tech noted a 'pre-existing loose hose clamp' on the coolant line from a repair back in March. The fine print says any related component failure gets bounced if there's any sign of prior improper maintenance. The clamp had nothing to do with the pump itself, but the adjuster in Phoenix overrode the shop's recommendation. I checked my contract language after and sure enough, there's a clause about 'latent conditions' that I never paid attention to. Cost me $2,800 out of pocket. Has anyone else had a claim denied over something minor like a clamp or bracket that wasn't actually the failing part? What did you do to fight it?

Extended warranties are basically betting against yourself, and the house wrote the rules. A loose clamp is exactly the kind of vague excuse they train adjusters to use, so this outcome is less surprising and more by design. Fighting it usually costs more in time than the claim is worth, so honestly, you probably got off cheap learning this lesson.
