Extended warranty denied transmission work, my mechanic's 5 minute call saved me

Back in March my 2016 Civic's transmission started slipping hard around 68,000 miles. The dealer said the extended warranty I paid $1,800 for wouldn't cover it, claiming it was wear and tear. I was ready to just eat the $3,400 repair cost, but my independent mechanic in Toledo called the warranty company himself. He asked one pointed question about the maintenance log I'd kept since day one, and suddenly they approved everything. It made me realize how much of this game is about who argues for you. Has anyone else had a shop fight harder for you than you could on your own?

Why is it always the guy who gets paid to work on the car that knows the magic words? That warranty company was just waiting for someone to push back, and your mechanic knew exactly which button to hit. I've seen it happen with my own rig, but it's always the little shop that gets things done. Those dealers just read a script and hope you go away. Good on your guy for not letting them screw you over.
