Can we talk about the warranty guy who asked if my car was 'breathing'?

Two weeks ago I took my 2019 Corolla to a shop in Mesa because the check engine light came on and the guy behind the counter asked if the car was 'breathing weird' before he even popped the hood. He then tried to sell me a $140 diagnostics fee on top of my extended warranty coverage, which I got pushed through after calling the warranty company myself on speaker. Has anybody else had a shop act like the warranty was some kind of secret password they needed to unlock before they'd even look at the car?
