Warning: my old tape deck ate my favorite mix tape last night

Was rewinding a Maxell XL-II on my Pioneer CT-F1250 in the basement when the mechanism just crunched down and wrapped the tape around the pinch roller, and now I'm trying to splice it back together without losing any audio, has anyone here actually had luck with tape repair kits or is it usually a lost cause?

Oh man, that's brutal... I've been there more times than I'd like to admit. Those repair kits are kinda hit or miss honestly, I've had better luck just carefully splicing with regular tape and hoping for the best.

Wait, you've had better luck with regular tape?! That's wild... I mean, I get being desperate, but duct tape or something on a hose just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. I've seen that stuff dissolve in the heat or just peel off after a few days. Not judging or anything, but that's a bold move for sure. The repair kits are janky sometimes, yeah, but at least they're made for the job... regular tape just feels like a temporary fix that's gonna turn into a bigger mess later. I'd be way too nervous to rely on that long term.
