Unpopular opinion: the old guy who sold me a CRT in Buffalo cared more about my setup than any store ever has
Met a guy named Frank in a Buffalo parking lot two months ago to buy a 13 inch Sony Trinitron for $25, and he wouldn't hand it over until he watched me plug it in and check the geometry on all four corners. He pulled a little notebook out of his jacket with test patterns and sat there for 20 minutes explaining how to adjust the focus pot with a plastic screwdriver so I wouldn't zap myself. He even wrote down a phone number for a guy in Cheektowaga who recaps flybacks, and I still have that slip of paper taped to my workbench. My wife thinks I drove 40 minutes for a box of glass, but honestly that parking lot lesson was worth more than the TV.
