Tried using a rewired old-school tube mic preamp on a cassette tape loop and got a weird delay effect I didn't expect

I patched my old Sony TC-377 through a 1960s Altec mixer strip for a recording session last night and the tape flutter mixed with the tube warmth made this lo-fi echo that sounded totally accidental but cool has anyone else messed with running tape through vintage gear like that?

Wait, you got that from a cassette loop? That's wild.

Actually it was a 4-track cassette multitrack recorder, not a standard cassette loop. My Tascam 424 let me bounce tracks together to build up layers. I'd record a guitar part, then bounce it to track 4 while recording a new guitar part on track 3 live. That's how I got this weird backwards sounding thing by flipping the tape over and recording the same part again. It's a totally different machine from a Walkman or anything like that.
