Tried cleaning my vinyl with a dishwasher vs a proper spin-clean rig

Has anyone else tried a wild hack like this or am I the only one dumb enough to experiment on a $3 thrift store record?

Oh for goodness sake. Dishwasher? You really went there. That's like using a pressure washer to clean a butterfly. I half expected you to throw it in with a load of dishes and some rinse aid too. I have to say, I'm impressed by your daring, even if the outcome probably sounded like a rain stick made of gravel afterwards. At least you had the wisdom to test it on a dollar bin find rather than a prized pressing. Hopefully the spin-clean restored some peace to your listening sessions.

Read an article from some audio engineer that said dishwashers actually work okay for 78s since those are shellac and tougher. But for modern vinyl the heat and pressure is a gamble, especially with the detergent residue. He recommended a gentle hand wash with a microfiber cloth and distilled water instead. Seems like the spin-clean is the safer middle ground, less fuss than hand washing but still gentle on the grooves. Glad you tested on a cheap record first, that's exactly what that same article suggested doing before trying anything risky. Your experiment was right to try, even if the dishwasher turned out to be a bad idea.
