The 35mm lens I sold last March still haunts me

Traded my old 50mm f1.8 for a zoom at a swap in Akron, but every portrait I shoot now feels flat. I keep seeing the same lens listed for $40 on the classifieds and almost pulling the trigger. Anyone else regret a trade even when the numbers made sense?

...and that's exactly how I ended up with a bag full of lenses I never touch, plus one that got away. I did the same thing with a 28mm years ago, traded it for something that made sense on paper, and I still catch myself checking the classifieds for it like it's an old ex I never got over. The worst part is, I know if I bought it back, I'd probably use it twice, remember why I traded it, and then the whole cycle starts again. But that doesn't stop me from almost pulling the trigger every single time I see it listed. My wife says I should just frame the listing and call it art, because that's cheaper than my therapy sessions about camera gear.
