That old TV repair guy in Tulsa gave me a real earful about my cleaning routine

I was complaining about a cracked flyback transformer on my 1979 Zenith and he told me to stop wiping the CRT with Windex every week. Said the ammonia eats the anti-glare coating over time, and he pointed to a scratch on mine that he swear was from that habit. Has anyone else heard this or is he just stuck in his ways?
