Talking to a retired repair guy made me rethink my cleaning routine

I met a guy named Frank at a coffee shop in Portland last Wednesday who said he used to fix turntables for a living. He told me that using alcohol-based cleaners on vinyl records slowly eats away the grooves over time. Has anyone else heard this, or is he just being overly cautious from the old days?

A drop of alcohol won't hurt, people baby their records way too much now.

Frank sounds like my dad who thinks I'm ruining everything I own, but he's probably right.

I actually heard this really interesting thing on a podcast the other day about how our parents' voices just get stuck in our heads forever, you know? Like even when I'm doing something totally fine with my car or my phone, I can hear my mom's voice telling me I'm being too rough with it. It's wild how we internalize that stuff, especially when someone like Frank is basically a walking dad lecture generator.
