Stop using steel wool on CRT screens
I saw three people at the swap meet last Saturday trying to clean CRT screens with steel wool. That scratches the anti-glare coating permanently, and once it's gone you get this weird rainbow effect on the glass. I fix old monitors on the side in Austin, and I've had five people bring me sets ruined exactly this way since February. Has anyone else noticed this getting more common or am I just seeing the worst cases?

Honestly, are you sure it's the anti-glare coating and not just the glass itself getting scratched? Ngl, some older CRTs don't even have that coating, so it might be the tube surface getting permanently scuffed up either way.

Lol, "permanently scuffed up" sounds like my old TV after I tried to clean it with a magic eraser. At least now I know it's not supposed to look like a foggy mirror.
