Soaking a stuck lens filter in Coca-Cola actually worked
Had a UV filter stuck on my old Pentax K1000 for months, couldn't budge it with a filter wrench or rubber band. Tried soaking the rim in Coke overnight and it came loose with one twist the next morning. Anyone else got weird tricks for seized up threads?

Really though, the concern about lens coatings is valid but I think people overstate how much damage a quick coke soak will do. The phosphoric acid is pretty mild and it's the carbonation and sugar that actually helps break down the corrosion. I've done this on three different lenses now and never saw any coating damage. Penetrating oil can work too but it's way messier and you have to be careful it doesn't wick into the glass elements. For me the coke trick is just easier and cheaper since I always have some in the fridge. Plus if you rinse it off with water right after it's fine.

Penetrating oil works better and won't eat at your lens coating like Coke does.
