Put $150 into a used Thorens turntable and got it singing again
Picked up a Thorens TD-160 at a garage sale for $40 last month. The platter wouldn't spin and the tonearm was sticky. Spent $150 on a new belt, some damping fluid, and a basic soldering iron to fix a loose wire. After a few evenings tinkering it plays perfectly now. That's $190 total for a table that would cost $500 or more online. Anyone else have luck reviving a classic deck without breaking the bank?

A hundred fifty in parts feels like a lot for a $40 table.

benreed says $150 feels like a lot. But he doesn't get it. That Thorens TD-160 is a legend. A fix like this turns a junker into something that'll outlast most new stuff. You basically saved a solid table from the dump. Worth every penny.
