Picked a vintage Technics over a cheap plastic turntable at the garage sale
So I was at this garage sale in Evanston last weekend and saw two turntables: a beat up Technics SL-1200 for $40 and a brand new-looking Crosley for $15. I went with the Technics even though the dust cover was cracked because I figured it would last longer. Got it home, cleaned the contacts with some Deoxit I had lying around, and it spins steady with zero wobble. Has anyone else taken a chance on a cosmetically rough item and had it work out better than the pretty option?

and that's exactly why I grabbed a dusty old Dual 505 at a thrift store last year. the power switch was stuck and the lid had a chunk missing but honestly it sounds way better than the shiny new LP60 my buddy just bought. sometimes the ugly choice just hits different.

Did you have to fix the stuck switch yourself too @holly_green82? I lubed up an old Technics and it changed my life.
