I finally get why my grandpa's cassette deck has a belt I can't find anywhere
Stopped by a garage sale on Elm Street in Boise last weekend and this older guy was selling a Nakamichi deck for $20, but he wouldn't let me buy it until he showed me how to fix the belt himself. He pulled out a rubber band from a broccoli bunch from the grocery store and wrapped it around the flywheel, then played a tape and it worked perfectly. I stood there for like 10 minutes watching this thing spin and realized I've been overthinking every repair by hunting for exact parts online. This guy had maybe 40 years of fixing this stuff and his tool kit was a butter knife, some rubbing alcohol, and that rubber band. Has anyone else had a repair saved by something totally random like that?
