Flea market CRT haul turned sketchy after I opened the back panel

Stopped by the Alameda swap meet on Sunday and grabbed a 13 inch Toshiba from the 90s for $15, seemed fine until I popped the cover off to check for dust. The flyback transformer had a cracked corner and someone had replaced the fuse with a piece of tinfoil, not a spec of the original safety parts left in there. How many of you actually open up these old sets before you plug them in, or am I the only paranoid one here?
