Serious question, why does everyone love those pre-made frozen chicken wings in the air fryer?
I had a buddy over last weekend and he swore his frozen wings were just as good as fresh ones. We did a side by side test at my place in Detroit, his bagged wings versus mine that I seasoned and chilled overnight. He admitted after three bites that mine had way more flavor and better texture. Has anyone else found fresh wings worth the extra 10 minutes of prep?

Hold up though, I gotta push back a little on the overnight chill thing. That's way more than 10 minutes extra prep. Seasoning and resting wings overnight is like a full extra step that most people aren't doing. The real comparison should be just tossing some fresh wings in salt and pepper and tossing them in the air fryer right away versus the frozen bagged ones. I did that test once and the fresh ones still came out crispier on the outside and juicier inside, but the difference was a lot smaller than if you do all that extra work.

Totally get where your buddy was coming from though, frozen wings have that convenience factor that's hard to beat when you're just craving something quick. My cousin swears by the frozen ones and he'll fight you about it (his argument is always "they're just easier and I don't have to think about it"). But that overnight chill thing, yeah that's a whole different level. For me, the best middle ground is just patting fresh wings dry with paper towels and tossing them in a little baking powder and salt, then letting them sit on a wire rack in the fridge for like 30-60 minutes instead of overnight. It dries out the skin enough to get that air fryer crisp without the full day commitment. I'm not trying to be a food snob or anything, but after doing that test a few times, the frozen ones always end up with that weird spongey texture on the inside no matter what you do.
