Serious question, why do my air fryer fries always stick to the basket?

I made fries last night and half of them were stuck. I found out I need to spray the basket with oil first. It's a simple fix I wish I knew earlier.

You didn't know to spray the basket? That's like the first rule of air frying anything. The thing needs a light coat of oil or everything just welds itself to the metal. You gotta shake the basket halfway through cooking too. Some lessons you only learn by ruining dinner.

Honestly, I skip the oil spray most times and my food turns out fine. My air fryer basket has a non-stick coating that works great. For example, frozen veggies or pre-breaded chicken strips don't stick at all. Shaking the basket can ruin the crispiness on things like fish fillets. Why add extra oil when many foods have enough already? What do you cook that actually needs it?
