PSA: my air fryer basket rusted after one dishwasher cycle

I got a new air fryer in March and threw the basket in the dishwasher like the manual said was okay. Two weeks later I pulled it out and there were orange spots all over the bottom, right where my frozen fries sit. I scrubbed it with baking soda and vinegar but the coating is toast now. I called the company and they said the newer models have a different finish, so now I hand wash everything and I'm eyeing a silicone liner. Has anyone else had a basket rust out on them, or is there a liner brand that actually holds up past a month?

The part about "the newer models have a different finish" is what gets me, because that sure sounds like they know the old finish was a problem. Did they actually offer to replace it or were you stuck eating the cost? I'm curious what they told you exactly, because "the manual says dishwasher safe" and then it rusts in one cycle is a pretty big gap. Mine hasn't hit that point yet but I've only run it through twice, so now I'm second guessing it. Also, when you say orange spots on the bottom where the fries sit, was it just the outer basket or did the inner crisper plate get hit too?
