Just realized I was preheating my air fryer like an oven for 2 years

My neighbor came over to borrow some parchment paper and saw me standing there waiting for the basket to heat up before adding chicken. She asked why I was doing that. I said the recipe told me to preheat. She said she never does and hers comes out fine. So I tried it once, and there was zero difference. All that time I was adding an extra 5 minutes to every single meal for nothing. The tip off was probably the frozen fries I made the night before. They were perfect, and I had forgotten to preheat that time out of pure laziness. Why does every recipe online still say to preheat? Has anyone else been on this same pointless ritual?

Right, and you'll start noticing how many recipe blogs are just recycled from oven directions without anyone actually testing them in an air fryer. The whole preheat thing is basically a copy-paste mistake that everyone keeps repeating.
