Tried a cheap Chinese locker in my Jeep last weekend...

I picked up one of those $300 Spartan lockers for my Dana 35 rear axle, figured it couldn't be worse than the open diff I've been running. Installed it Saturday morning in my driveway in about 4 hours, but on the test drive through the gravel pit near my place, it locked up so hard it snapped a spider gear clean in half. Learned that you really gotta match the locker to your axle's spline count and carrier break, or you'll be walking home. Anyone else had luck with budget lockers or am I just asking for trouble?
