Spent 5 years running 35s on stock gearing before I finally regeared

I put 35 inch tires on my 2012 Tacoma back in 2018 and just dealt with the sluggish acceleration and transmission hunting on hills around the Smoky Mountains. Last month I finally dropped $1,800 to regear to 4.88s and it feels like a completely different truck off the line. Anyone else wait way too long to do this upgrade or did I drag it out more than most?

Is it really that big of a difference though? I mean, I get sluggish but $1,800 is a lot just to not have to deal with a little hunting on hills.

Drive a manual on a steep hill in stop and go traffic for an hour and then tell me it's not worth it. That hunting gets old real fast when your left leg starts shaking from holding the clutch. I'd pay $1,800 just to avoid that cramping feeling alone. Plus resale value on a manual is way lower these days, so you're basically losing money twice. The sluggish feeling is worse too because you're always worried about rolling back into someone. Spend the money once and forget about it for the life of the car.
