Shoutout to the guy who sold me a 'rebuilt' transfer case for $900
Threw it in my YJ last month and now it's whining louder than my ex. Anyone else get burned on a part that was supposed to be 'good to go'?

Match what happened with rebuilds, same deal with "certified pre-owned" cars or "organic" food labels - everyone throws those words around like they mean something specific but really they just slapped a sticker on it and hoped nobody would notice.

I mean, "rebuilt" can mean a lot of different things depending on who you ask. Maybe the guy just put new seals on it and called it a day, which is basically just a reseal, not a full rebuild with new bearings and everything. If you threw it in a YJ that's probably got 200k miles on it, the whining could be from your driveshaft angles or a bad pinion bearing that was already worn out in your axle. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've had good luck with used parts from guys who are upfront about what they actually did to them.
