Serious question, did 4x4 builds get way more expensive or is it just me?
I pulled out my old build sheet from March 2021 in Colorado Springs, and my whole suspension setup ran me $1,340. Same parts list today quotes at $2,180, and that's without the shop rate going from $85 to $130 an hour. I sat in the parking lot at a trailhead near Buena Vista last Saturday and realized half the rigs there had $15k into them, minimum. Back when I started, you'd weld your own bumper in a buddy's garage for a case of beer. Is it just supply chain stuff, or are we all getting priced out of the hobby?
Went to a swap meet in Denver last month hoping to score a used winch and left with nothing because guys wanted $900 for ones that looked like they'd been dragged behind a truck. Meanwhile my neighbor just spent $400 on a set of recovery boards, which is insane when you think about what those actually are. Buddy of mine sold his built Tacoma and bought a side by side, says the math works out better now. Feels like the hobby shifted from wrenching in the driveway to just swiping a card.
